Tumbled

The rocky shores of the Orkney Islands have been our playground for the past five years and I fell in love with the beautiful rocks and sea pebbles here, in the very early days of our island life.

I feel a connection to them and their journey, as the tides and waves knock off their edges and smooth and polish them over time. My life experiences are also shaping me and my creative practice. Sometimes I can feel the crashing of the pounding waves over my head, but as I work through each problem, I find myself lying in calm shallow waters, a little stronger and a little smoother, as I find myself rounding out.

Tumbled is a celebration of those beautiful sea pebbles that have given me so much joy, and of my journey with coil basketry.

It has been made with a flax twine core and flax lace weight yarn. The stitched pebbles have been made with layers of Japanese canvas and worked with flax embroidery threads.
