Spring Has Sprung is a basket that I started at the beginning of 2026, as the first crocus bulbs began to appear in the churchyard nextdoor. The lower half the basket is covered with hundreds of tassels with flashes of colour from paper beads that I made from waste paper - like the flashes of colour from the spring flowers amongst the grasses.
The tassels were made with ends of thread and twine that I had been saving form other projects.
For several months this basket sat unfinished, by my side, as I explored the possibilities of quilting and applique, until one day I felt the call to finish it. I used those explorations in fabric and stitch to create leaves and flower buds across the surface of the jute coil work, bringing the two sides of my creative practice together in one piece.
