Glimmer

When I found this mussel shell, on a beautiful afternoon in January, it was still joined together at the hinge. I was delighted by the rich colours, barnacles and patterns on both sides.

When I got home, I found that the hinge had broken in my pocket and the whole had become two halves.

I thought about cocooning each shell separately, but I knew that I really wanted them to stay together - as they should, so I set about finding away to bring them back together.

I'm so glad that I did.

Glimmer is a mussel shell, carefully cocooned in a raffia basket.

Size : different in every direction, but 12cm at the widest point. Please refer to photos for a sense of scale.
