During the month of April we have spent many happy hours walking through the woods at Edzell, following the high river bank, through the beech leaves and stopping to watch the many falls along the way. The river, is quiet, deep pools in places and then a thundering wild thing, full of energy as it meets the great rocks. The trees are varied and towering above, with many saplings growing up below and always the gentle noise of last years beech leaves beneath our feet. A place for connecting with nature, drinking it in. A place full of bright shining faces as we explore and for dreams and quiet reflection. Edzell is a raffia coil vessel. I have carefully taken apart a Norway spruce cone collected from the woodland floor and shaped each cone scale, before attaching them to the vessel. They remind me so much of the beech leaves still clinging to the saplings, which were protected from winters storms, moving in the gentle breezes now and with the sunlight filtering through. I hope that I have captured a little of the magic of this place in this piece. Size : Approx diameter 12.5cm at widest point, approx height 7.5cm
