Ancient Hand – Wall Hanging

Ancient Hand is part of my collection - An Ancient Hand.

An Ancient Hand, began with a beach pebble, whose distinctive lines, engraved on the surface by nature, caught my eye, while out walking along the coast.

I set about capturing the essence of those markings, by hand-printing canvas and then, once stretched, cocooning it in fine linen thread.

I love the juxtaposition of the fine linen with the locally produced jute twine (more often used in the garden). To me, these two, in combination, sum up what I love about coil basketry - its versatility and its accessibility.

Ancient Hand is a wallhanging. A piece of handprinted canvas has been stretched around card and wool batting and then cocooned in fine linen thread. The linen coil basketry forms a frame for the central canvas design.

It has a simple loop of thread on the reverse for hanging, and can be hung from a wall using a simple nail fixing.

Size : approx diameter 13cm, approx depth 3cm.
